Are there any dentists out there that could tell me if we're paying too much for tooth implants?

My husband is needing a tooth implant. (I believe it's called a prosphetic root). It's were they insert a permanent post that will eventually hold a tooth/crown. We were quoted $2300 per post (not including the crown). Seems like alot of money! Anyone familiar with procedure in fresno area that could shed some light on this situation? Thanks much!

Hello, Unfortunately you are now in the dental gold mine. That means that two things that pay huge bucks for the dentist is Implants, Crowns and getting to get it paid for through insurance. Dental fees for appliances, Crowns etc, created by a dental laboratory are inflated between 5 and 10 times the dental laboratory fee. i.e., Crowns that cost the dentist $85.00 is inflated to as much as $950 by the dentist to the patient. Implant procedures themselves vary from as little as $500 each to $1200 each. The posts cost the dentists between $65 and $120... I know of no dentist charging $2300 for a single post implant, but have no problem believing there are those who do. If you go the Implant /Crown route be sure you get in writing that if the Implant fails the Dentist removes it at no charge, and any subsequent dental

appliance required to fill the void will cost you no more than 10% above the dental lab fee.....IF that means a Partial Denture appliance, the Lab fee will be around $250.00. Good luck and I wish you well.
Reply:That's more than we paid in Northern Calif. ($1,800) I would recommend you call other dental offices in your area and ask what they charge or go somewhere for a second opinion. You might have to go out of the Fresno area, but it might be worthwhile.
Reply:This is a lot high for where I am from, but I would guess it is a little high still for where your are. I would think you could find some a little more reasonable even in the fresno area. Call some different oral surgeons or periodontist offices and just ask how much an implant runs without the crown.
Reply:Hi Evie

Dental implant prices vary any where from $2000 to $4500 - for a single restored(completed) tooth supported by a dental implant!! But the price can increase significantly in cases where additional procedures are needed (bone graft or sinus lift).Just applying a few CC's of bone graft material can cost an additional 500-800$.

Even though prices are high you can still find a cheap dental implant by using these tips/ideas : http://www.dental-implants-guide.com/che...

From your description it sounds like your dentist is charging in the higher end of the price range - but if he's a well known specialist with lots of experience then - maybe it's worth it!

Hope your husband feels good
