Tooth implants?Whats your opinion of them and how much do they cost?

I'm a dentist and my wife recently got 2 dental implants. My brother got 1 about 2 years ago. I wouldn't let them go through the procedure if it was horrendous or anything and I wouldn't recommend it to them if I thought it was a bad idea.

A dental implant is like one of those threaded inserts that you find in some assemble-it-yourself furniture. The implant is a cylinder that is placed in the bone where the root of the missing tooth used to be. It has threads on the inside to receive a post which will then receive a crown. It's actually kind of simple mechanically, except that it is _extremely_ precise and the technique is demanding.

It's not difficult for you, but it may be tedious while the dentist checks and double-checks everything along the way. You want it to come out right, though, so this is what you want them to do.

Getting the implant actually placed may take 60 to 90 minutes for one and maybe 2 hours for two in the same area. After that, the restorative treatment will take a few visits of about half an hour to one hour each. By a few, I mean three visits in most cases.

Implant Fees

The implant would be from $1,500 to $2,000, but that's just for the implant. You need to have the implant restored with something or it's useless. ONE implant is typically restored with a crown, but that is a two-part deal. First you get what is called the abutment and sticks out above your gums. That can cost from $500 to $1,000 depending on whether you can use a pre-fab abutment or if it has to be custom made and what the fees are in your area. Once you have the abutment, you need a crown and that fee should be pretty much the same as a crown on a regular tooth. That would be from about $750 to $1,000 or maybe more in some areas. This means the total would range from about $2,750 to $4,000 depending on several factors. I'd say the average single tooth implant restored with a crown in New Jersey might be about $3,000.

It is possible that your bone at the extraction site might need augmentation and that would cost somewhat more. The extraction, if it's a "routine" extraction might cost from $100-150 and the augmentation could cost just as much as the basic extraction.

I think they look great but are really expensive.
Reply:oh- i have them- veneers- if thats what your talking about- they look wonderful- feel wonderful etc... but they o not last forever and your own tooth gets filed down to make room for the implant- so.... if you can afford them and to replace them when necessary- depending on the dentist $5-700.00 per tooth- ouch!!!! and i have had one fall off while eating- this is sooooo embarrassing.
Reply:I have heard of them in fact I have a friend who got some, but I didn't ask how much they cost. I think, it is a wonderful idea if you need them. Of course they are not as good as what God gives us, but it is a fantastic substitute. Thank God for all the creative ideas He gives to man to help us.
Reply:tooth in plants are not to bad bcause now a days a dentice can make them so they look like real teeth. my friend had implants and he did not have insurence so they cost him about 500.00.

good luck and you should do it for you
Reply:I highly recommend implants they will last forever,,, unlike crowns or bridges which after years can need to be replaced. the cost depends on the doctor most charge between $1000- $1500 that is just for the implant , then there is a few month healing period before you see your dentist for the crown which is usually $500 - $800 good luck
Reply:they will run you close to 20 grand if you talking about a full set. now make sure you get someone that knows what they are doing because you could endup with a numb jaw for life. some people can't get implants because of sinus cavities. if you are getting implants you are going to suffer a lot of pain due to the surgery. and yes i think they are well worth the pain and money if you can get them
Reply:I'm a registered dental assistant by the state of arkansas. They are a great and beautifual and last forever unlike dentures or partial. It depends why you want them or need them. they are expensive, you are talking about 1,000 per tooth and that includes the prep work for each tooth. If you want a full set I imagine that a dentist will cut you a deal.Veneres like that one person said is not an implany but a fake tooth like a fake finger nail it just an over lay on the tooth to make whiter and prettier. The implant actually has a srew it fits on down into your gums and jaw bone. If you can find a dental school in your area they are cheaper too. It just depends on the reason for the implant.
Reply:Dental implants vary in price they go from as low as $700 per implant to a mouth full of them for $15,000. The are going to become the future of dental care because if they are put in correctly they will out last your other teeth. The dental implant is important because as you chew it stimulates the bone that it is implanted and and the bone continues to thrieve because of that sort of pressure. You must have seen older folk who seemed to have no lower jaw. It was because they had all their teeth removed and then lost the bone mass of their jaw.

Dental implants are the only way to go for good dental health
