Are tooth implants better then bridges?

I have to have an extraction. The tooth is fairly close to the front of my mouth. I don't want to have a gap. Is an implant better then a bridge?

in an ideal world, an implant is "better" than a bridge. the reason is that dentistry is governed by the principle of conservation of tooth structure. when fabricating a bridge, multiple teeth must be reduced in all dimensions. this reduction has risks as do all dental procedures. dentists prefer to avoid the removal of healthy tooth structure when possible. sometimes, such conservation is not an option.





an implantologist?? is there such a person? that's a term invented to confuse the consumer. it's sort of like "laser dentistry" or "sleep dentistry." these are marketing ploys so don't fall for them.





periodontists, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and some general dentists are qualified to treat and maintain implants. an implantologist is not a real profession. such claims are illegal in some states.





implants are not for everyone. a comprehensive evaluation, including xrays, diagnostic models, and a thorough medical history, must be done. sometimes there is not enough bony support in the area or enough space between teeth next to the site. other patients are smokers or in poor health. such patients have a less favorable prognosis. placing an implant requires much care and consideration. it is also a time consuming process.





in summary, both a bridge and an implant are viable options for a missing tooth. the decision ultimately comes from the patient after being properly informed by their dental team.
Reply:ABsolutely, provided you have the money and sense to see and experienced Implantologist to get it done right. You dont' have to cut adjacent teeth and they are geting upwards of 99.6% predictable.

I also have had bridges done ( a few) I am happy with them but you have to attach Bridges to 1 or 2 good teeth.
Reply:I have implants and they are the next best thing to having your own teeth. Bridges require the shaving down of surrounding teeth and teeth can decay under them.
