I had two teeth pulled? Dentist recommends an implant or my teeth will shift. How long can I wait?

I had the back lower two molars pulled (teeth #18) My dentist recommended implants or my teeth may shift and eventually fall out.





I can't afford them now ($5500) , but could save up for them in about a year and a half.





How long can you go without a tooth being present and still implant one?

Son I am no dentist but I had mine pulled 52 years ago with no ill effects. And my teeth are OK.
Reply:You can see if insurance will pay for it. Maybe you can do the most severe one now and then the other later so at least one gets in.

Reply:Please talk to your dentist. Be honest with him about not affording it. He should be able to tell you .....he knows your mouth better than anyone here does.





Ask him if it will do permanent damage to wait, or to not get them at all. If you don't trust him, find another dentist to ask.
Reply:you might be able to get a bridge for half that amount ask your dentist. You may prefer the implant but this will keep them apart until you can get it.

If your local state university has a dental school, I would definitely go there to get an honest assessment.

Reply:Get a partial until you can afford the implant. Please NO bridge. They have to shave down the teeth on each side to place the implant compromising perfectly good teeth. Implants are worth it. Save your money if you can because it is an investment in your future.
Reply:My dentist said no longer than six months. I have to get two pulled also. You could get a partial until you save your money, thats probably what I will have to do.

NOT ALOT WILL HAPPEN IF WAIT UNTIL YOU CAN AFFORD THE IMPLANTS. INSURANCE DOES NOT PAY FOR IMPLANTS AND THIS IS UNFORTUNATE. THERE ARE CERTAIN CASES WHERE ONLY AN IMPLANT WILL SERVE AS A SUBSTITUTE.
Reply:I had a top molar pulled about 4 years ago and just recently discussed an implant with my dentist - I don't remember them ever telling me I needed to get it done right away. My teeth did shift slightly because the space is smaller than it was, however nothing shifted enough to mess up my bite or cause any other harm. I also had 4 teeth pulled (one from each side, top and bottom) because my mouth was too crowded...the spaces closed up and I never had a problem. I honestly do not think you will have a problem if you wait that long, that's very expensive. My dentist said I didn't even have to put anything in place of where I lost that tooth if I didn't want to, so I'm only having it done for esthetic purposes.
Reply:When you will get all teeth out that day you can not make denture.


you have to take those implant one out too. So you loose money $55oo plus you have to give money to pull out.
