What u think about implant and bridge teeth?
I have been a licensed dentist for 7 years now so this is an opinion of such a person that preforms these procedures daily.
Crown- basically shaving down the portion of the tooth to give room so that a fake (crown) can have room to function as if the tooth was brand new.
Bridge- if you have teeth 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 and you lost teeth 3 and 4 you would make a bridge that covers2, 3, 4, and 5 by constructing 4 crowns that are connected to each other when they are made.
Implant- this definition is not exactly the correct way to explain implants, but as long as I am explaining to a non dentist- it is like taking a screw directly into the bone and using the portion of the screw that sticks out of the gums to place a crown on just as if it were a natural tooth root.
Down side of a bridge is that the two adjacent teeth to the space where there are teeth missing, have to be used to grind down to a nub and sometimes these teeth have nothing wrong to start with.
Down side for an implant is that they are expensive, not covered by insurance, and the success rate varies from type of implant placed to habits of the patient receiving the implant.
All should function as a normal tooth, just different cleaning requirements.
Last but not least, you cant bridge a natural tooth to an implant.
Thanks
Brian
Reply:I have a bridge and for the most part I like it but I have had a problem with it in the past. The cement they use to hold it in place chipped away in one spot but I got it fixed and haven't had a problem since. They are like real teeth I can eat anything I want to and there is no discomfort. I have a friend who had an implant and no problems with that he has stated. I guess its probably preference
